The 3rd 'castaway' we are joined by is Doontheroadarab.
DTRA you have been destined to spend the rest of your days on an isolated island somewhere in the middle of the South Pacific Ocean.
In an extremely lucky quirk of fate however there is big package washed up on shore.......when you open the said package you find a cd walkman, headphones and what would appear to be a 50 year supply of AA batteries.
If you could pick any 8 albums to take with you on the Island...what albums would those be Sir?And can you give a small insight into why you've chosen each one please?
Offline
You can take 2 books with you.
1 that you've previously read and 1 that that you always meant to get round too.
Which books and why?
Offline
Which person would you miss the most?
Offline
If you could take one Dundee Utd match on video to watch over and over again...what match would you choose?
Offline
What one other inanimate object would you take with you on the island if you could?
Offline
What one alcoholic drink would you take with you if you could?
Offline
What ONE album would you save if the tide started washing them away and you only had time to retrieve just one?
Offline
And finally as the sun set on the Island for the final time in your life what song would you like to play out?
DTRA,i thank you Sir.

Hello fellow arabs, before I get sent to the desert Island could I just say that it has been a pleasure to read all your posts on TT and although not agreeing with all of them, like most people I hope there has been a certain decorum displayed on this board not seen on any other to my knowledge, which in my eyes sets it firmly above the rest as we all seem to show a bit of respect to each other and have a good bit of banter,
My record choices are probably all over the place genre wise but it does reflect bits of my life and the tracks aren't my favourites but the ones I think would give me most comfort, joy and sanity on my Desert Island
Album 1
Frank Sinatra
I chose this because when I was a kid there was always music playing in my house, one of my earliest memories was always getting told off for twiddling the knobs on a radiogram trying to see what stations I could find, there was always a radio on in the kitchen and my big brother had one of those dansette record players in his bedroom.
my parents liked all types of music but especially Sinatra and Dean Martin so this album reminds me of my early years, toss up between Sinatra and Deano though.
The track iI would pick would be " Come Fly With Me " one of my old dads favourites
Years later when I was serving my time in the Boatyaird, me and an old mate o' mine took an old Hi-Fi in to work and played it in the portacabin where we changed and ate, I brought in a load of old singles and LPs and 78s and we would play them at breaks and when we could sneak away.
One day when we sneaked off, there was a loud knocking at the door of the portacabin I opened it thinking it was one of my mates only to find it was my foreman standing there wi' his yellow foremans safety hat on. I thought I'm in deep shit here but I'll always remember his exact words " Have you got any Frank Sinatra son " so we sat and listened to a Sinatra LP for about half an hour, now I'd never really got on with him but we got on like a house on fire after that, so it shows music really is a common dernominator

If anybody has anything they need to do in the next couple of days I would crack on if I wis you, will catch up soon

Album 2
Ziggy Stardust
On Thursday 17th of May 1973 iI went to my first live concert, David Bowie at the Caird Hall he was absolutely brilliant what a showman and I have been a fan ever since that night, this album was one of the only albums that I never lifted the needle to skip a few tracks, I loved every track equally and IMHO this is one of the all time great albums.
Tte track I would choose would be "Rock and Roll Suicide" because being alone on the Island I'm sure the Black Dog may make an appearence now and again and I'm sure this track would help me pass through it

Great start DTRA.....liking it!
Also liking the fact you're slower than me and might get rescued before you complete your task!!!

Album 3
The Undertones
Sorry can't find the album
I first heard them on the late great John Peel show, he liked "Teenage Kicks" that much it was the only record he played twice in a row on his show he also has the line" teenage dreams so hard to beat" carved on his gravestone.
This is another record that I could put on repeat and listen to all day long, raw and full of energy if any of our younger posters haven't listened to this do yourself a favour and give it a listen , 36 years on and still gets my adrenaline pumping
The track I would choose would be .... "Get Over You"

Seriously see you in the morning, I'm on an all nighter

Album 4
Transformer Lou Reed
I had a hard choice between this and the Velvet Underground this won by a ba' hair, I love the Andy Warhol/ Lou Reed/ The Factory/Velvet underground/Pop Art era and this was one of the first LPs that I bought
The track that I would choose would be ...Andys Chest this would be good if I find some feelgood plant matter
Offline
Album 5
The Ramones....Greatest hits
What can I say about The Ramones, one of the most exhilarating bands ever, every song short but energetic and manic, just the thing to keep me upbeat on TT Island
The track I would choose would be... Sheena is a Punk Rocker will say more about this track later
Offline
Album 6
The Best of Prince Buster
I'll need something mellow and happy at times and theres no one better IMHO than the Prince, if I do find some happy medicine on the Island, I can see myself and my fellow band members (the trees ,who I'd imagine I would be on first name terms with quite quickly) singing and dancing to the Prince.
The track I would choose would be.... " Madness"
Offline
Album 7
Scooter
I'm sure I'd have to try and keep fit ish, so this would be perfect for running and exploring especially when i try to kill some unknown animal for food and my docky misses and i've got to leg it
The track I would choose would be.... Jump That Rock ( Whatever You Want )
Offline
Album 8
The Singles ... The Clash
Gotta keep the best till last, without a doubt my all time favourite band great song writng, great musicians and great vocals, can't think of any two songs that sound the same unlike other bands who just churn out the same old pish over and over.
A Desert Island + the dulcet tones of Mr Strummer = Heaven
The track I would choose would be " White Man in Hammersmith Palais " Fuckin' love it

I don't read as much as I should these days, since the I-pad and Sky Go and BT Sport have arrived books have taken a biit of a back seat really , but I should get back in to the habit.
The book that I have read and would like to take would be " The War and (Peace) Memoirs" by Spike Milligan, I really loved his sense or humour and got some real belly laughs reading it.
The book I haven't read but would like to take would be one of those survival books by one of those nutcases Bear or Mears and hopefully glean some top tips for my stay

Hate to say it but probably the other half she's no' to bad really, 25 years she's listened to my pish so I would probably miss her melting my ears, in a sick kind of way
