Scott Allan

You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it.

Hope we get him and McKay and mcginn and Rodney

That would be 3 extra midfielders. IF we did sign all 3, others would have to go. Realistically I think we're looking at options incase we get knocked back from any of them.

Re: Scott Allan

Can't see this happening, I'm sure there are bigger teams than United that are interested and he has publicly stated he wants to get Hibs up this year then leave under foc.

I'm a cynic when it comes to football and this is nothing more than a wee bit of fishing to excite the fans imo.

I hope I'm wrong as he's a very good player.

Agree, I'm worried that it's all just a fishing exercise.  Looks good to fans but putting in unrealistic bids ain't gonna get them.
Mckay for example. Wigan paid 150k for him when he had 6 months of his contract tae go. No danger they are going to accept less than that while he's under long term contract.

Re: Scott Allan

My sentiments too.

There's two things really annoying me, one being that two weeks ago our squad was great, the manager was delighted with it, we would be strong in every position and competitive.  We sold one player that we knew we were selling yet now we need a shit load of players in and what we've got aren't good enough?

Secondly our scouting philosophy seems to be, a) have they played well against us? Or b) are they on PVH's books?

It's not a case of cutting off your nose here, if they're good enough then go for then but most of the names banded about we knew they were good enough 6 weeks ago, like we knew Ciftci was going to Celtic 7 months ago.

Re: Scott Allan

Didnt the jungle jims have £500k bid knocked back for him? Or was that only rumoured price?

Finding it hard to believe after refusing to hit 200k bid for him in january we will now go over souble that now?

Re: Scott Allan

Was Allan not quoted as saying he would never come back here? Can't see this happening at all, reckon he will be at Sevco before the window shuts, if we are bidding I just hope it's a good concrete bid and not some low-ball shite...

Re: Scott Allan

Ask Aston villa how it works out when a player says he isn't leaving.
Sevco have no money.
Allan has came back to kick start his career after it floundering. Why would he want to go to Celtic at this point in time to sit in the bench behind Armstrong again? Maybe he's learnt a lesson.
He can't waste much more of his career in the lower reaches.
Saying all that, it's still a real long shot, but I'd be delighted with him and McGinn in midfield.
Maybe 350k and Paton would get it done.

I don't know why that would annoy you Andy? Imagine if he'd openly said he needed more players in, but his hands were tied until Cifti was sold. You could forget about £1.5M bids from Wigan and Celtic.

Any hint of a need to sell would have given Celtic huge bargaining power. They've got a player (who they know wants to join them) and a club they know are desperate to sell. They could have just let it simmer away after their first bid was rejected, knowing that United would eventually have to cave and accept something far lower than the £1.5M they eventually got.

What the manager says to the press, and what he thinks privately, will be two completely different things.

Re: Scott Allan

Perfectly logical theory Trap 6 and will be the case up and down thr country right now, I don't buy it for a second in our case though.

Ciftci was going, and he was going to Celtic, it was just a bit of a dance to get to the fee, or maybe just terms of payment.

We got £2m from Celtic in January, so they know we have money to strengthen if that was our want.

I genuinly believe he thought our squad was good enough from February and good enough now, he's then seen pre season and changed his opinion.

Much like his arrogance two seasons ago when he stated every week that we don't need to worry about the opposition or what they do, that if we play our game we'll win.

It took him until after the Scottish Cup final and another horsing from Saint fucking Johnstone to start talking about a plan b, or different tactics depending on the opposition.  Unfortunately we don't have the players that can do that now.

You're right though, I shouldn't be annoyed by it, its normal operating procedure at Tannadice.

Re: Scott Allan

Exactly. It was a bit of a dance to get to the fee. And United played it superbly. They had Celtic jumping through hoops.

Re: Scott Allan

Allan starts today at Dunfermline.

Noticed Keef not in their 19, did he get a permanent gig there?

No mate, 350k and Paton wouldn't in my opinion get it done.  Neither would I imagine us forking that out.

I'd love Scott Allan back at United but this is pie in the sky stuff.  I'd be stunned if we pull this off.  Don't think United think we are going to pull this off.  Stinks of a smokescreen

Don't know if smokescreen the right definition but trying to embolden themselves and have us think they're putting forth a genuine effort.

I'll not be appeased by efforts like this.  No danger we are signing Scott Allan.

Re: Scott Allan

I would tend to agree RRDh I dont think Allan will end up at Tannadice. However why would ST waste time trying to appease the sections of the support who think he does  care about the club.

I honestly don't know BH. Like I said in another thread, this summer is baffling for me.  We are in scramble mode when everyone knew how crucial this off season was for us.  I stayed quiet while they were all away on holidays thinking a plan would be put into action on return.  Then the plan was to evaluate in Holland? Shocking stuff.

As far as ST, jmac go this is either down to incompetence or just straight not giving a flying f uck just now what product turns out on the park.

I think JM has not been happy with the squad since February however if he came out and said that before knowing if he was to get money  to spend he would be left with a few  unhappy players. Some may not agree  with JM but to call him clueless is a bit shortsighted, he has played in the world Cup and been captain of the best Scottish  side I have seen in the last 40yrs.

Not calling him clueless, think he is many things, including a bad manager. Not clueless though.  Just have to look at his contract situation to realize he's not clueless.

Not a very good manager, flaws in his critical thinking and possible questionable motives.

I don't know exactly what's going on. What I do know is that we are making a chunt out of this summer... as it stands

it may well be   warning tactic with St Mirren, ST saying accept my offer for Mcginn or we will move on to our other target.
