Tek Towers 'Ultimate 80's Movie' - Round 1/Game 1

Here is the lowdown/disclaimer for the very first Tek Towers Ultimate 80’s movie.

I had a shortlist of 100 movies and eventually ground it down to 60 to keep this competition relatively short. In case I have made any glaring errors by not putting your favourites in you can always send them to me and I could do another sometime further down the line, the films might not be every persons cup of tea but its based on the films legacy, critical acclaim, ‘cult’ factor and box office. The list itself is not based on my personal favourites, there are a few that I down right loathe but are celebrated as ‘classics’.

I kept to the overall majority demographic of the posters so no Dirty Dancing or An Officer and a Gentleman I am afraid. Also in the case of sequels or trilogy’s only one film will be put on this list, so that means unfortunately no Return of the Jedi (my favourite!), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Back to the Future II.

Sadly Weekend at Bernie’s, Police Academy 4 Citizens On Patrol(the best one IMO!!) and Breakdance 2:Electric Boogaloo didn't make the cut.

There will be 4 stages, 1st stage will have 15 rounds with 4 movies each in them, top two goes through. The next stage will be 10 rounds of 3 movies and the Semi finals will have 3 rounds, 2 rounds will have 3 movies and last round will have 4. Then the final round will have a straight shoot off between the final 3. Any tie breakers will go to sudden death, if no sudden death vote occurs then it goes to most previous votes.

So lets celebrate and reminisce together as we choose our ultimate movie from arguably one of the most productive decades of film thanks to the advent of VHS/Betamax and video stores where we would spend hours of our time staring at hundreds of film covers before renting out Transformers the Movie and Footloose again for the umpteenth time.

Can I have four numbers please from 1-60.

I remember these video store days, endlessly reflecting over such titles as Cafe Flesh, Wanda Whips Wall Street, Kneel Before Me, New Wave Hookers and Great Sexpectations.

Of course, it’s likely that some if not all of these movies will be part of this prospectively fine looking competition.

I have actually seen Edward Penis Hands. In one scene he introduces himself and shakes a girls hand but his penis hands prematurely ejactulate. John Waters would be proud to make a film like that!

Re: Tek Towers 'Ultimate 80's Movie' - Round 1/Game 1

I have a soft spot for Steve (the 80's go to guy) Guttenberg and Short Circuit was good for its time.

Die Hard is good as well, but I dont share the view of it having iconic status as a lot of other people do (Die Hard with a vengance is the best one IMO).

Predator is awesome, great casting, great musical score and very atmospheric as well as having an alien with a mouth like a vagina.

Das Boot is just incredible, a real tour de force. It's up there amongst my favourite movies of all time.

My vote goes to Das Boot!!

Re: Tek Towers 'Ultimate 80's Movie' - Round 1/Game 1

I'll need to discount both 'Das Boot' and 'Die Hard' immediately as i've seen neither.

'Predator' is still watchable but it scared me a bit as a kid, whereas 'Short Circuit' i watched time and time again...so wee Johnny 5 get's my vote.Cracking wee cunt.

Score update;

Short Circuit: 1
Die Hard: 5
Predator: 1
Das Boot: 4.

Voting closes at 9pm. Winner will be in the seeded pot for the next round, runner up will be in the unseeded side.

If I could get 4 numbers off one of you fine people from 1-56, I can get the next game set up as soon as voting has closed for this one.
