TFI Friday

Is returning after a 15 year hiatus.

Fucking loved that show back in the day.Finished work, tea, wee tinnie while watching TFI,then a shower and the weekend starts!Happy Daze

Dubious as tae while it will still have the same appeal tbh.Seemed very of it's time.

But will give it a watch out of curiousity nonetheless.

Re: TFI Friday

Seen that as well. It lost its way in the last couple of years due to his ego expanding to the size of a planet, but as you say it was cracking telly when it was on its game.  Will deffo be watching.  Not as good as 'The Word' mind you.  Mental to think that TFI was broadcast at 6:15pm or something and 'The Word: Access All Areas' was on at 6:30pm.  TFI definitely perfectly coincided with the whole Britpop thing. The problem it would face now is there are no bands charting now so musically, would teenagers watch a programme like that?  The worry is it just puts on all the poppy, X-Factor style shite thats on everywhere else.

Re: TFI Friday

I would assume so. Mani from The Stone Roses is seemingly on it.  Surely the Roses wouldn't... Nah don't go there LAO, don't go there...

Unless its already written and this is them about to play the first single.  They've had 4 bloody years.  Its the sort of stunt that Evans excels at.

Re: TFI Friday

So many great bands on the show through the years...

This band was not one of them IMO, but its certainly one of the most memorable moments of the show for me, fucking mental.

Re: TFI Friday

One reason I think it won't work as well now is the music. As people have said there simply isn't the same interest in the charts anymore or guitar music in general. If they're gonna fill the show with shite like Ed Sheeran,Sam Smith etc then the show could end up tragic.

They also won't be able to get away with popular segments of the show now like 'Ugly bloke' and 'Freak or Unique'.

Times have simply moved on.

The more I think about it, maybe it was best just left alone for us to reflect on through rose tinted spectacles forever more.

Re: TFI Friday

As others have mentioned, it was a great start to the weekend.  Doubt it will feel the same second time around, but I'll watch it anyway.  Please let the bands that they have on be decent.

I take it nobody remembers the short lived OFI Sunday then?

Re: TFI Friday

used to love that show, mind a noel gallagher interview when he dropped the f bomb and evans looked horrified. apparently ever since then channel 4 put a short delay on live broadcasts.

I think it won't work because of changing times. with social media, mysky, smart phones you tube and everything else, the days of everyone watching the same show at same time and talking about it are gone.

shame as it did seem like the start of the weekend. irn bru during TFI then train into town for a Friday night, those were the days

Re: TFI Friday

Its not going to reach the same heights I don't think. Didn't really watch it myself as was only really coming of age to watch it/appreciate it just as it was finishing up.

The comments about lack of music potentially not influencing it the same way is dead right. When you think about it in the context of when this show stopped being produced it was also the end of the last real music scene. Since the very late 90's there has not been anything since, every decade/generation before had a scene(s). Just doesn't seem to exist anymore, music still changing and hasn't found its feet again yet I don't think.

The old audiance will watch with a small amount of new younger viewers, so will get a decent amount but will likely be critised by others who also used to watch it as "not being what it used to be", always the same. Might get aired later at night also which may help as to what content can go on air.

Agree with most of this.

For a one off show it will work on nostalgia alone, but for a series I don't think it will work.

Wonder if it will be aimed at the people who used to watch it, or the equivalent age group it was aimed at when it was first launched. Either way I'd get shot of Chris Evan and get someone new in. Mani would be perfect - I remember he done a show about new bands on a cable channel, thought he was great on it.

Nu Music. Agreed, he was really good at it. Still think Evans is the man to present it though.

Re: TFI Friday

Reckon it was aimed at the 15-23 ish age range, when I was that age music was acceptable and fashion was just what you wore, there was no need for folk to dress like 80's throwback cunts.

If it's aimed at the same demographic as said above you'll attract shitey acts like Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, Jessie J, Little Mix and numerous boy band wankers and people who think shopping in Top Man makes them cool.

I'd rather have bad Aids than entertain this.

Re: TFI Friday

Liam Gallagher, Rodger Daltry, Zak Starkey, Ringo Star and Ian Broudie  seemingly doing "my generation" on this, could be no bad

Sounding like it could be a good start. Will it continue like this all the way through though?

Re: TFI Friday

Seemed more a one-off sentimental look back show than anything else.

Ken what it just never had the same feel, but i don't think it was through any fault of the shows. It was virtually the same format.

But it's no the 90's anymore and my youths slowly fading on the horizon. Was actually quite excited to watch this earlier tonight but in the end it just left me feeling a wee bit depressed if anything.

Re: TFI Friday

Thought it started of ok but by the end it was the "look what this person looks like 18 years later" show.

It was of its time and was a genuinely off the wall TV show, it all just seemed a little bit contrived last night.

If they did make it into a series again, you can just see dullards like Nick Grimshaw and Rita Ora being on it.  Hopefully that's it put to bed now.

Re: TFI Friday

I had to turn it off, Lewis Hamilton makes me sleepy. He is living proof woman are only with him because of his job and money, you'd have more fun with a stick insect.

Out and out nostalgia trip that was pretty good until Lewis turned up. Shouldn't be made into a new series unless Evans goes back on the sauce, as others say, put it back to bed.
