Some observations

Apologies if the following have already been covered. This may also be 'no shit, Sherlock' stuff to some folk too:

Last week when Jim Spence asked Jackie about the future and perhaps summer signings, Jackie laughed before giving an ambiguous, rehersed, politician answer.

This week when asked about his future as manager, he said, "I can't help talk & rumour. My focus is always the club & best interests of the club & I'll continue to do that."

Not exactly a puss-shutting answer with conviction.

Jackie is, to me, just seeing the season out. That's why we're not hearing of any pre-contract signings or contract extensions.

The players know he's away so they too are just seeing out the season.

The silence from Tannadice is deafening. I think the Chairman would like to leave now and is just waiting on a buyer. He always said he wanted to hand the Club over in a fit, rude financial health state. He's done that albeit we're operating at a loss and have no sellablle assets left for the moment.

The above points are also the reason why we've not had any statement a la "We're backing the manager and share the fans' frustration but we're going to fix it together, try not to worry, we're onto it, we know it's not good."

That's the craic as I see it. All conjecture based observations but I can't see how it's going to be any other way as it stands.

I'd agree

2 problems though

your spelling of 'operating'

and the indefensible use of the word 'craic' -we are not fucking Irish

Oh, what came of the things we once believed?

If we can't mathmatically get 4th place before the Derby i think he'll chuck it.

Because finish 5th or 6th and lose that and the shit will really hit the fan.

And he knows it.

Re: Some observations

I don't think you're too far off the mark with all that Benny.

A lot of what we think we know is conjecture, guesswork and reading between the lines because, as Tek and others have said elsewhere, it's a game of blink first between manager and chairman just now. Neither of them is willing to play their hand so we're all left guessing what they're holding.

One thing I'm 99% certain of though - they won't both be in their current roles come August. One or the other may be, but not both. Pretty safe to say that relationship has gone and it won't be repaired.

If I had to pick one to stay it would be the chairman every time. Wouldn't be at all surprised if they're both gone though.

Re: Some observations

It's not a stretch to suppose that Jackie didn't want Armstrong and GMS to be sold. I remember Jackie saying that the sale had his blessing but I think the agreement is that the Chairman does what he deems necessary and the Manager can like it or lump it.

Big Dunc was famously sold to Newcastle without Everton Manager Walter Smith's knowledge. And Allan Johnston resigned over Robbie Muirhead being sold without his knowledge. So it's not a reach to suppose that Jackie thought his squad was intact given that the Chairman was on record during the transfer window saying something like "we're trying to build something here at Tannadice, not dismantle it", to paraphrase.

What manager consents to two of his best players being sold without replacements already in the squad or bids lined up to replace them?

He implied on several occasions in interviews that GMS could be off in January though Chris.

He maybe even wanted him out as he wasn't playing well and we could recoup some cash for him.

Armstrong was the one that pulled the rug from under his feet IMO.

If he was ok with both going he's a fucking yes man, which does us no good either.

Jackie's Judgement: "Do you see your longterm future as the Manager of Dundee United at the moment?"

Re: Some observations

really torn on jmac tbh...just watched that interview and actually think he spoke very well....going by whats he's saying he's now got more of a chance to build now rather than dismantle cause they've 'cleared what was built up before'....fuck knows man....should he stay or should he go....

Simply don't trust him to rebuild again.

We need to make sure we buy well this Summer otherwise I fear we're flirting with relegation next season.

Re: Some observations

getting the impression by that interview he's made up with thomson, gonna rebuild and go for it....either that or its a classic pre season book spin

If the only problem was the sale of players then I'd agree. I quite like the guy and he speaks well IMO.

Thon defence though? He got countless caps for a half decent Scotland side and was a top defender. Can't seem to organise a fucking thing. Seems to take the easy option as well of binning defenders and getting new (probably expensive) ones in and it hasn't made a difference.

I wasn't happy with the contract thing but I can live with it tbh. His tactics and defence though. Brutal.

No wonder he's saying that he'll be here next season. He'll not be going to a bigger and better club will he? He'll be going to a lesser club because when he's not had the 3rd, arguably 2nd, best squad in league he's been found out IMO

Re: Some observations

I'd like to see this defence with a keeper who shouts instruction behind it.

I agree, the management team have to take some responsibility, but Rado sure as hell doesn't help.

Shotstopping is fantastic, one of the best in the league. But he's unreliable and uncommunicative. Pull out all the wonder saves you like, that's never going to make for a strong defence.

You're right though, JM seems to struggle to pull results out when he doesn't have a good squad playing well.

On balance though, I'd prefer consistency. Unless a manager completely loses the dressing room or falls spectacularly short of expected levels of performance, I think you should stick by them.

We're only 9 points behind last season's total. After losing the talent he has, I don't think he's done at all badly.

Re: Some observations

Possibly mate. However, when you look at where we were at 5pm after that semi v the Sheep? Season has been a massive wet pump and fans are deflated.

He's also made IMO lazy signings. Thon Anier? Pretty damning indictment of his signing policy that 16 year old Ali Coote is now ahead of an international, probably very well paid, striker.

There is nae danger he scouted him. Or McGowan or Dixon. Lazy signings IMO.

Think Dickers and McGowan will work out ok but they'll not be cheap either

Re: Some observations

Tbh though all I want is some stability. If Jackie is going to be here next season maybe a wee Pre contract announcement to placate fans. Maybe an assurance that players will be brought in and that they are working hard to get them?

I could live with that. If Jackie turns it around I'd be delighted. Just want club to turn this around

Never scouted McGowan? They shared driving duties and discussed football philosophy long before Gowser came here, and I think Jackie's judgement has been proved spot on. Great swop for heart of a lion but cannae stop a cross Keef.
