one thing that made stewart a big fans favourite at the time was his ability to take penalties...we had a shocking record during the 70s with penalty takers...

It’s amazing that a player such as Raymie Stewart only got 10 Scottish International caps.
Scotland did have a fair choice of decent left back at the time, Frankie Gray and Maurice Malpas, plus Arthus Albiston and George Burley.
But Iain Munro and Ally Dawson were sometimes picked instead of Stewart, which was quite shocking.
£400,000 when he went south was a huge fee too, yet I'd imagine there might be a huge flounce on the Internet if a comparable event occurred today.
Fans weren’t happy at the time I recall, but, (maybe because there was no social media) I don’t think there was such an outcry, simply an acceptance that we’d still have eleven on the park.
