West Ham United v Sunderland

Sitting here in the 1st Class lounge at Kings Cross (that's the Station not the Hospital) got me knee-jerked into posting something. Missed the 2 non-events at Cesspit Park this week, due to being at a family doo in Barking.

Whilst grimfaced at the hotel after the 1st goal being scored against us by GMS Somerville, was presented with 2 tickets to the Boleyn Ground for the Hammers game against Sunderland.

So it was run up to Barking station, and on the Tube to Upton Park. Spent 2 hours in the Boleyn pub (practically sozzled BTW) in the company of 500 hammers supporters. Strange as I sat there watching our match on the pub TV, getting comisserations from the drunken company. Couldn't really hide, because I was wearing the only casual jacket I had with me, complete with Dundee United Club badge on it. Songs about Christian Dailly and Ray Stewart were done in my honour (well that's what I want to believe anyway).

Catering at the ground several hundred years in advance of ours. The food bars are 100 foot long, with loadsa staff, - no phuckin queues! Burger and chips, 50g bag of crisps, Wispa bar, and a cuppa - 5.40. But a pint of lager 4 quid, as it is in every pub I visited in London. Great to get a pint at half-time.

The match itself was pretty average by EP standards. The home support around would wholehearted agree with that. TBH to say I had a good drink on me is pretty spot-on.

A couple of points of interest about the Hammers. They detest Cesspit and the Ranking Rogers and all that goes with them. It's common knowledge that the Scottish Refs give them all the advantage.

Funniest moment of the day. A number of Hammers supporters who saw me in my DUFC jacket, seemed to think I was a scout for Dundee United. After the final whistle, a few asked me who I favoured. When I said 'Sakho', who had just scored the winning goal in the 85th minute, they hit the roof! Didn't have the heart to tell them we couldna afford one of their ballboys.

Edited to say that as far as the family 50th is concerned, can't remember much about it, I was blootered before I got there.

Great story Billy, safe journey home

Hear their shout, hear their roar
They've probably had a barrel of ale and much, much more
Hooray, hooray, hooray, yeah
Over the hill went the swords of a thousand men
