Bridesmaid again,sadly

Seen us lose in every fashion at Hampden over the years (as most of you will have also),humiliations, bottle crashes, glorious failures, last minute heartbreakers.

But today was different again. In that there was nothing i could say today to really fault the players, everyone gave it their all and we came up a bit short.

But what's the most frustrating aspect is that it's clear as day that that Celtic team is as poor as we've all seen and Deila's tactics are poor.

We have played 50% of the last 2 games against them a man short, and still, they have struggled to defeat us.For all the possesion that has came with that man advantage, thay have created very few clear cut chances. And when they did it was bread and butter fitba, not once really cutting us apart.

Without wishing to harp on about it if we still had Zig+Zag in our ranks i reckon we would have won today. If Nads played too i am very confident we would have.

This was a nothing performance (not a performance lacking in effort you understand),just a performance that gave the fans nothing of note to get excited about. No lasting memories. No goals,no great shots,no memorable free kicks, headers or the like.Highlight of the day Rado saving a penalty (AGAIN) when the match was long gone.

I will go along on Wednesday to their shitehole away end more in defiance than hope or any expectation of victory.

My only ask is that the Utd side that take the field on Wednesday are one that McNamara has sent out to win the game.Today we set-out a team not to LOSE (if that makes sense).

Get Connolly starting.Get Bilate upfront WITH NADS.

Get wee Telfer in the 3 beside Connolly.

Even if we play 5 at the back again it leaves another 5 who can all score goals and cause them problems ..

Dow-Telfer-Connolly
    Bilate-Ciftci

Give the bastards a game.A PROPER game.

Support fucking wonderful today btw and deserve a victory against this lot in a big game,a game that realy means something.

Incidentally who is the imposter masquerading as Paul Dixon?

With Dillon also out of Wednesday now probably, dispatching Connor Townsend now looks very much like the kneejerk reaction i thought it was at the time.

Re: Bridesmaid again,sadly

Justin fae SLF gig and huvna read any other posts.  Just missed Sportscene tae - phew!  This is my confessional.  Agree with what you say mate.  I understood the business reasons for selling, but that was why it was unfortunate in a futba sense selling to them - the only buyers.  We went with a game plan - that was to stifle them and go for a smash n grab.  Mr Chairman that is the crux of the business v futba conundrum - against a poor Celtic side, we had 2 offensive players in our starting XI.

All was going to plan until the Dillon injury,  our 4411 or whatever was working fine, but with Rado and Rankin signalling game over for Dillon, no-one tells the manager what's going on. Instead of going 441, we go 3411 and with our left back sclaffing a free kick from the right wing, we are all out of position and all over the place and bang they score and mountain to climb.  Then we are faced with the farce of Spittal coming on and Dillon running down the tunnel.  A National Cup Final is NOT the place you want to be making mistakes of that magnitude???!!!

Anyway, the positives for me is that apart from that, I thought we executed the game plan with the players picked to play.  I thought Bilate did well and looked OK.  I'd just hope for a wee bit more adventure on Wednesday and hopefully that 300 mile round trip will not be in vain

And the support was incredible, some of the best I have ever seen.

Re: Bridesmaid again,sadly

Good post above Fooky (decided this is your nickname on here and i'm running with it).

See that fucking farcical 5 minutes when Rado signalled Dillon's finished,to us just about to bring Spittal on,only for Dillon to all of a sudden race down the tunnel...fuck me thon was the actions of a junior club.Does naebody fucking talk between the coaches+ medical staff? (phones/walkie talkies whatever).

Celtic goal sandwhiched inbetween times,of course

Have to confess i was going off my fucking nut during that time. Some Utd fans round me looked so blase about it too.Dunno if they were daytrippers or what but i've been to enough of these type of games to know it could/would fuck us.

Looking back it was a double kick in the baws that Spittal never got on.At least we would have played 11v11.

Was shameful management if truth be told.

Again i could understand giving 5 minutes if we had a player of outstanding talent potentially coming back on like Leo Messi. But you replace Dillon with Spittal, and that's that.Fucking ridic what transpired and the lack of communication fae the bench made me fucking livid.

Re: Bridesmaid again,sadly

A total fuck up leaving us a man short for 8 minutes giving dillon treatment away to make a sub then cancel it as dillon runs back out nah sorry but that whole situation was a fucking joke.

Team selection was too defensive for me..

Roll on wednesday

Have to play devils advocate here guys regarding the Dillon fiasco, tin hat on, please hear me out. I'm sure it will all come out in time the reason why it all happened, but from my point of view when Dillon went for a 50/50 and ricocheted off the Celtic player for a throw in (which incidentally the ref gave to Celtic!) that's when he started hobbling with his ankle, he went down a few minutes after, Rado came running over and done the subbie gesture to get him off, this is where things got a bit strange for me.

Don't know who it was but it didn't look like the physio who came running from the bench first as he didn't have a physio bag, then Dillon appeared to be holding his nose like it was bleeding. Eventually he hobbled off with white tape showing around his ankle (previous injury!?). If it was a blood injury he has to go off and get stitched up and come back on, maybe he got caught on the ankle and busted it open from a previous injury and had to get it taped up again I don't know.

JM would have been informed of what's happening when he went into the tunnel, Dillon is the captain of the team, JM gave him time to get patched up/sorted or whatever, to put a subbie on for the sake of giving Dillon time for his treatment is a call that JM had to make, sometimes it pays off and you can get away with it, sometimes not.

This was a gamble that sadly backfired on us, after Celtic scoring it looked like the pressure got to JM and made the decision to get Spittal stripped and ready to go on only for Dillon to come back out. Incidentally I didn't see Dillon hobbling much after that so whatever treatment he got it must have worked.

To sum it up, managers live and die on decisions like this, yesterday JM gambled and failed, the subbie made him look weak as well when he buckled and tried to put Spittal on. We should have had more communication between the medical room and the manager, it made us look stupid, we lost a goal from it and Dillon came back on to make the rash challenge in the second half (it was a straight red IMO).

I still fully support JM and Dillon, I'm not angry with them as they will be hurting too, but I also don't need to be going mental at the dugout to get a subbie on to show I am a true supporter/not day tripper either, we dont know the full story, hopefully we will.

Roll on Wednesday...

Re: Bridesmaid again,sadly

Any indecision in a game of that magnitude is a worry tbh Siebs, it caused confusion in our ranks and gave them a shot in the arm after restricting them to wayward shots from distance from Commons mostly, we cannot afford to give Celtic any advantage  whatsoever in Glasgow and not expect to be punished.
We move on and hopefully learn

Re: Bridesmaid again,sadly

Well said Sieb. Jeff Clarke, the physio, was on first and mimed a stitching motion, then the club doctor came on. Dillo then got seven stitches in a 3 inch gash but I know, from experience, after painkilling injections and sterilising, it's not an instant cure (although eh was in A & E 😉).

My memory, through admiration, will be the fact that Dillo did it.

I try not to apply hindsight.
