Teams we cannot afford not to be in the Premiership...

...or deserve to be in their rightful place. How many times have we heard this? Steven Naismith the latest culprit to regurgitate this nonsense. Sevco in particular, but also Hearts and Hibernian (Edinburgh clubs included as a matter of course more than anything else and backed up with the main reason that they have 15,000 gates), following on from this is the throwaway 'looking at the state of the game' comment.

Whilst aware this is just pishy journalism or catering to the mass audience, it still rankles with me. If Sevco are not doing well (or Celtic if they were in the same situation) this means Scottish football is not doing well?

Don't know where to start with this. Why can't we afford not to have them, why is the Premiership their rightful place and what state are they talking about?

Teams currently in the Premiership can certainly afford to be without them. Teams have to cut their cloth accordingly and are making headway in doing so. The situation of SPFL teams would be the same if all the afore mentioned teams were still in the premiership. Since Sevco have been absent a number of SPFL teams have also made great strides in actually slashing their debt; how can teams slash their debt if they cannot afford to?

No team has a rightful place in the Premiership or any division. It is a competitive league, not a fucking hall of fame. If you don't compete or flout the rules, it will cost you. This applies to all teams. Furthermore just because a team gets a gate of 15,000+ supporters, it means fuck all.

The state of Scottish Football? Scottish football has been in a state since the late 90's, not in the last 3 years. It has not worsend since Sevco started up in the old Third Division, but it has actually made the greatest amount of progress in that short time. This has happened despite the best efforts of Regan and Doncaster trying to hamper or ignore this, Sevco making an absolute mockery of our regulating bodies and the said regulating bodies allowing them to do so.

The other one that boils my piss is 'for the good of Scottish football.' I dispair.....

Rant over

Great post. Setanta was probably a blessing in disguise. More teams are becoming more sustainable without the TV holy grail (cos it's non-existent).

The Utd model, promoting youth academy gems along with other gems from lower leagues, is the only way forward, but it still needs to be reined back re revenue/cost ratios to reach self sufficiency.

Couldn't state it better myself lao but even without them we would be competing with two teams from the capital and one from a city that's bigger and wealthier than our own

Hear their shout, hear their roar
They've probably had a barrel of ale and much, much more
Hooray, hooray, hooray, yeah
