Wasn't necessarily talking about making a role just for Goodwin, but we've often discussed that it seems no-one on the board is football minded, and it could be Goodwin could be head of football operations, looking after the whole structure. Just looking possibilities whereby if he's unable to continue in his current role, we can see how it goes, or as you say gardening leave and take all the time you need.
Goodwin has an eye for a player, but sometimes can't get the best out of them, or overthinks things, so advising, recruiting there may well be a role, dare I say replace his namesake?
Hope this is all moot of course.

Yeah, i've heard a few pieces of speculation, but wouldn't be comfortable speaking publicly about it, or posting it, as again, it's none of our business.
And this isn't being callous, but there's a growing concern amongst the fans that his time as our manager is coming to a close, whether we subscribe to that viewpoint or not, now nobody wants it to be under these circumstances. But if he needs to take a step away from the stress and strain, then do it, if he/the club think as you've said above a less hands on role, but still being involved, then I hope that can happen.
We've all got our opinions, but there's plenty of those who can't think before speaking, shouting, posting, (every fanbase has them) it would be horrible for him, his family to read some of the stuff that gets posted.
After the Falkirk game where it was pretty clear there was maybe a bit more than a routine check going on, someone altered the 'Get Well Soon Jim' banner the display team did, to 'Go Now Jim' or similar and few liked/shared it.
Tactless, ill-advised, cruel and just dickish. He was called out, but FFS read the room.
There's also been quite a few nasty comments re Iqbal on the official feed as well.

There was a picture on Social Media of the squad out for a meal, which seems to have been taken post game.
It didn't look like Goodwin was in it, but I never looked closely enough to see if any of the coaching staff were.
I just hope he is ok, the picture at training they posted pre-Falkirk was vague I thought, the eye patch at the game was a concern, and if he wasn't taking the team in a bounce game, it perhaps suggests a longer layoff?
It's none of our business and it's a personal matter, so I wouldn't expect updates, he needs to take as much time as he needs to recover, or work out what's happening.
There's a 3 week break after Saturday, so perhaps we might hear something then, or he may well be back in the dugout.

Play a few overage players, there's no game this weekend, give them some minutes.
Play Metsoko, he might score a goal.
Play Graham, we might need Metsoko to score two goals.

Jon Daly looked hopeless until he got his first goal.
We're creating enough chances, now whether Rose or Metsoko are the answer remains to be seen, but they were signed to be the focal point, yet in our last 3 games, they've started on the bench.
Goals breed confidence, yet we're having to play a certain way because we're playing Sapsford through the middle.
Decide which of the two is the best option, the one that's gonna make the best runs/movement and the one that'll get on the end of crosses and give them a run of games.
Maybe one of them comes good, i'd be inclined to go with Rose, he's actually our player.
Dundee United » Dundee United Vs Falkirk - Saturday 5th September » 06/9/2026 10:14 pm
A drum i often beat, stop bringing back every single player for corners/free kicks as well.
Leave your front 3 up the park, we'd have a numbers advantage and the opposition at worst would go man for man.
The box doesn't need to be so crowded.
Dundee United » Dundee United Vs Falkirk - Saturday 5th September » 06/9/2026 10:05 pm
Walton needs to distribute the ball, because the option of going long and the runner moving onto the second ball isn't an option, because we never signed a proper target man.
Also get to fuck with the short place kicks, Walton passes to Forbes, Forbes to Bert, Bert lumps it central and vice versa, ball just comes back.
Keeper should just launch it as far as he can into the channel, which could work if we've picked of of the wide men with pace this week.
Dundee United » Dundee United Vs Falkirk - Saturday 5th September » 05/9/2026 11:07 pm
What's the fucking point in VAR?
That's a pen every day of the week on Randall.
Watching some of St Mirren v Celtic, the picture quality and angles are shite for deciding things, you either get the best tech or you do fuck all.

6 centre midfielders for 3 positions is perfectly normal. We had no centre midfielders on the bench v Killie, you need depth in there.
Rawlins and Naamo play right back. So we have two for that position. Whether we think they are good or not, the club obviously do.
Yep, even with 5, one injury and you’re worrying. 6 gives you great options to change a game from the bench.
I don’t think we’ve ever had a collection of midfielders as technically gifted as the ones we have now. There’s more to football than that, but my god, if we can utilize them properly we’ll be a joy to watch. Whether Goodwin’s the guy to coach that, I have my doubts, but if not, our next manager should be someone that can coach proper technical, attacking football, because I think we have the players to do it.
Rumours Yoro is out today. So alongside Agyei being suspended, suddenly we only have 1 player (probably Iqbal today) to come in to replace one of our 3 midfielders (the most tiring position in football). This is why I was so shocked when people were asking "why are we signing more midfielders"
I was one of those people, but it wasn't really about midfield, it was that I felt we could do with strengthening other positions first. 6 for 3 gives us great options if we continue this formation/way of playing but we only need 4 for 2, if we go full Mike Basset.
Really hoping that Rose or Metsoko take a game/goal and it builds confidence, because there's real potential to be a nice footballing team, but we can't afford to be so wasteful in front of goal as that then puts pressure on a defence that can struggle as well.
As a side note (and it's a season long thing not today's 90 minutes) but I notice Falkirk in promoting today's game have used Spencer. Guys, we bid what we thought he was worth, it's not a gotcha, and since, we've signed two players who should offer so much more.

VAR never even reviewed it, probably because of the shitty cameras.
The penalty claim they never reviewed either had a nice clear picture though.

I think we're more likely to see Cameron.

Re the Agyei appeal, there's no way you get a clear picture from the angles we see on the night, now there's now an angle available, where it shows exactly what it was.
He's trying to clear the ball, swipes, misses and catches the Well boy who rolls about like a gymnast, accidentally, due to positioning he probably can't see him and isn't aware he's there.
If the appeal is unsuccessful, then it shows they can't apply common sense, anytime you kick the ball you follow though, a clearance, a shot whatever, your leg has to go somewhere, it's not a tackle, it's not studs up, he's probably slipping as well as he tries to play it.
Much like the Camara v Hearts one, does he lean in, yes, can you see proper contact, no, have they guesses what they think happened, too fucking right.
Compare with the one in the Falkirk / Huns game, boy slides in, wins ball but the follow through is studs right on the shin, accidental, could argue a red, but could easily say it's just momemtum, but a far more severe foul than Manny's.

If the boy Metsoko isn't coming on for a possible confidence boosting goal with 25-30 to go v Killie, or featuring at all tonight, then what's the fucking point in him?
Sapsford isn't the answer through the middle and whilst Rose might not be either, i'd rather Rose played there, if nothing else he's a pest, gives defenders no time to settle.
In this league the first goal is massively important, in every game, despite results, we've knocked it about well in spells, but have no end product. I simply can't believe we have/or looks like we've gambled on a guy coming from a pub league on the other side of the world, and a guy who will come and go before any of us have learnt to spell his full name.
What a fucking mess it could be, we sign Tait, but don't play him in his right position, we've now got Cameron a very tidy, forward thinking, clever football, who the fuck is he gonna pass it to, himself?
Max Watters was pish, maybe never recovered from the early injury, but his goals v Rapid and Falkirk were the type a centre forward scores, just good movement/anticipation and at least he looked like a centre forward, a strong, bustling lad. We've got two guys who are built like Marathon runners.
Maybe we can't afford to buy players from these shores, maybe it's all about where we shop for value for money, but whilst it may be cheaper, it might well be the most expensive mistake we make.
Still think we're winning 3-0 on Saturday though.
Bar one great pass v Rangers i've yet to see anything from Bennie, what's he offering that an academy player couldn't?

3-1 United, Forbes.

Aye, we won't stand in your way, but we'd like some return if you go.
Otherwise all we'll get is a the same upheaval in January will low-ball bids, after a pre-contract is signed.
Celtic if they're interested will not meet our valuation, how many prospects do they let slip away because they won't pay a Scottish club the money, just in case it helps strengthen them?

Nathan Patterson gets a move to Serie A.
I'm away down to Sports Direct to pick up a pair of boots, anyone needing anything whilst I'm in?
Dundee United » Summer Transfer Window 26/27 » 01/9/2026 12:47 pm
Cameron is a very talented player, but i just dont like loan deals from the arsecheeks. Also, as above where does he play, who does he replace, and is this position a priority when we're short in other areas?
Dundee United » Summer Transfer Window 26/27 » 01/9/2026 9:40 am
You'd hope that with us making noises about Ferry not going unless our valuation is matched, the club just didn't drop their knickers at the Sevelj offer without a plan in place.
But, it is United.
If I was a manager and key players were sold without replacing, was under a bit of pressure, I'd be considering if any recent medical issues might make me rethink my position.

With Sevelj and Eskesen away, we're a midfielder down.

Some may disagree but medals won in Scotland with Celtic/Rangers are worth next to fuck all, surely you'd want to test yourself in a better league, or experience another country.
I get that guys born here and brought up in these areas see Rangers/Celtic as the pinnacle, but to me it's up there with your ambition being just to wake up in the morning.
Hope the club stand fast, these cunts have previous for not paying the going rateand bidding to unsettle players, I would rather lose him for nothing in the summer than take a derisory deal.
