No it was Ruiridh Adams, the U18’s had a game on so the new young lad was with them.

Archie Meekison was also back running but away from the others and was doing a small passing drill and loads of running.

I’d happily take Lewis if we could get him.

Was in St Andrews with the boy yesterday and popped to training to watch for about 45mins. Newman was the main keeper during the session and MB was spending more time with the young keeper to the side so we can rest easy he is NOT going to be between the sticks when the proper games start.

Watt involved in the non contact stuff and was looking like he isn’t too far off. Sadat walked passed limping but no brace or boot on coming from the gym area.

No sign of Aziz, don’t think he is even in Scotland. So you can add him to the offski list.

Let me start by saying I'm underwhelmed at the Goodwin choice after what was a very brief period of delight at the departure of the Fat Controller and the noise around dilution of Ogren's control.
Key for Dundee United this season is that we get the boardroom mess sorted out and have a sound leadership team for next year.  I'm concerned that has gone all quiet and it is clear from the Goodwin announcement that we are still firmly in the Asghar set up, but without the charlatan himself.  Yes, that is more important than the league we are in next year!
However, after sleeping on it, I'm warming to the idea of Goodwin but only because sometimes two wrongs do make a right.  We are a total basket case.  Who in their right mind wants to come in when there is bedlam in the boardroom, an utter farce of a squad on the training ground and impending relegation?  I suspect Levein walked away on re-assurances beyond this season and control matters.  The latter I understand, the former I have less sympathy - we need someone to come in and save us/prove themselves or go.  Goodwin has agreed to that.
Goodwin, who seems generally unlikable (nothing wrong with that - Jim McLean wasn't exactly likable), is at very low ebb, just like us.  However he could have slunk off into the background for a few months and probably come back in to another lower level premier or higher championship team after licking his wounds.  He hasn't, he has put it all out there again and has arguably risked any credibility he has left to come and fight for us.
I think he has a very hard job to do and that failure is more likely than not.  If that comes to pass he gets jettisoned and we look to building a squad to come back up.  Better than having given the task to someone who we'd have to stick with if we go down.  Goodwin has bet everything on keeping us up and he is therefore bound to be extremely motivated.
As I say, two wrongs sometimes make a right and given who isn't go

Craig Moore is likely the closest, Sam Harding was on the bench a couple of months ago but did his ACL so out longer term at the minute. A few others in that group who we’ll hopefully see in a year or two.

No posted for ages so no better time to do so than the manager buggering off.

totally agree TA is in a world of shite now. He goes for the cheap option to keep his overall control then the backlash will be likely too much to continue for any length of time. It’s no secret now that a manager or ‘head coach’ is expected to dance to his tune, given we’ve lost two managers in 12mths it’s not overly appealing to experienced managers.

in the end of the day the customer is king and given the emotiveness of football once we turn there is no going back, this is the last Roll of the dice for him. If he fucks it up then he’ll know it’s going to end in tears.

On a slightly more positive note can we just take a minute to be thankful that the bland football offered up this season is hopefully gone and up until the Aberdeen game very few of us would have been upset to see Mellon go.

Over to you Toni, we wait with baited breath and pitchforks at the ready.

Canny see Shankland being interested in up rooting as you say with his missus expecting. Lets face it Sir Lawrence has enough trouble with English let alone being suck in the middle of nowhere in France.

I’d agree that the longer it goes the more likely compo will be the verdict, if it were to be in Hearts and thistles or thrown out altogether then that would be a reasonably quick process. Think they will be taking into account the impact on them and a ‘fair’ price to be given.

MM is a strange one, He’ll be one of the largest salary jobs with the SFA with a fair bit of security, to give it up for a wage cut, and knowing that a few bad results and he’s likely to be heading out the door sooner than most other managers due to his past. He’d obviously leave with a wedge of cash to pay up his contract but by the time that happens the SFA job is gone and he’s out of work for who knows how long.

You look at  Jack Ross , Given all the plaudits here for his managerial style and ability, Hibs doing well under him and did well at St Mirren, however you look at the disappointment he was at Sunderland, well backed in league 1 and still didn’t get them promoted so I’m no gonna dispel McClaren after having had a hard time at a few other basket case football clubs in England.

For me if we were to get him and Daly or Robson in to be mentored then I too am in.

A leader, someone capable of instilling unwavering confidence in the players. Their actions need to mirror that of what they want to see on the pitch.

A positive, enthusiasm for the club which takes everyone with him, players, coaches, fans. Make the place feel like it’s unbeatable from negative outside bullshit.

Playing two wingers and getting at teams especially at home.

Great point and completely agree. These 'random' names who have never been to Scotland let alone played or managed are a big risk. I'm not saying they can't work but it's a massive risk.

I'm going for Wright, he proven to get results in the league. With a shoestring budget he has secured European football over the years and a Scottish Cup win. Would you take that as it stands today?? I know St Johnstone have never been seen as a pretty team to watch but i'm sure with the freedom of a bit more money Wright would like to play a bit more expansive football.

Sky Bet have added Nigel Clough to the betting odds.

See the likes of Clough and Lehmann - these guys have been on another world for most of there careers.

What I mean by that is, even Clough at a small club (in English terms) like Burton will have a budget that dwarfs ours.

These kind of guys come to Scotland thinking they will skoosh it and then get hit with reality when they see what kind of money they have to play with.

I honestly think we need to go for somebody like Wright - knows the game here inside out and did brilliant with Saints.

Am I gutted Neilson is going? Not really think we’ve had better managers and at times his decisions have been a bit too negative for me.

I’m more reeling given the need for us to get ready for next season, all transfer stuff will have to stop now, players will be unsettled understandably given the quickness this has happened.

One positive appears to be Ogren’s apparent ‘if you’re not 100% on board then pack yer shit and fuck off’ that’s some big bollocks and not grovelling for him to stay.

No way they can not have us in the top division. We have sold over 5000 season tickets, re-signed players started testing and training with our squad and staff on the back of being a Premier team again.

Any sniff of this being taken seriously then oor lawyers will be on the case too and it goes on and on and on leaving the game in limbo for possibly months and months with appeals and counter claims.

Aye, imagine Hearts would be pulling every lawyer, they can get their hands on, to stop them going down tae.

Think the only way is to finish the season when they can or it’s gonna be court actions galore.

By all the reports this is gonna be months rather than weeks until we get back to any normality.

A possible option would be the new season, whenever that may be,  being two rounds of fixtures next season

You'd like to think we would be looking at the Queens or the Inverness game as possible title winning weekends, Imagine the Tangerine invasion of Inverness if there was a chance that weekend.

As you said we have a habit of hibernation over the December to March period and have gone on some horrendous runs during this period for a number of years now so Champers back on the shelf and we'll revisit in March one the daffies are back on the go.

It’s one of those catch 22’s for the laddie himself, he goes now, earns a very decent wage even in their youth team and maybe makes the grade.

He can either stay with us, try and get a regular game this season and kick on to get 50-60 games under his belt, rip it up with us and then get a his move for more money for himself in 20mths time.

Willo’s interview last week really hit at this point of young lads needing to get those games under their belt.

I’m sure every fan of every team is feeling the same at the moment. Unless they have destroyed everyone in the cup games. That isn’t the case and im sure the Dee fans are concerned about their manager and having loads of new players. ICT have not been great, Ayr are rebuilding and we’ve taken two of their best players off them. You could go on and on.

We just need to hope Neilson will stop being so bloody minded and will have a go in games and we can get another 2/3 players in and out things might seems more positive if we get off to a decent start.

There is the opposite to this but let’s not go there 😳

Dundee United » Loemba » 30/7/2019 8:58 pm

He was too concerned with Loemba and was oblivious to his teammates and the need of the team. Would beat his man and instead of playing the pass or cross he’d try and take him on another three times and in doing so lost the ball time after time.

Glad to be rid, Mr Staunch next out I’d imagine.

Was less than impressed with many aspects last night, thought we looked without shape and never looked to have any game plan once we scored apart from 10men behind the ball.

There are individuals you can pinpoint for having a shocker and again questions over players being out of position. Would have like to have targeted their young left back much more with McMullan being pushed forward on top of him as they did with Sporle.

Credit to Hearts who handled the weather much better thank we did as some of the passing was atrocious at times.

Positives in the cold light of day:
Shankland got one chance and scored clinically from it.
Appere and Banks did very well and definitely didn’t look out of place against a good Hearts side
Liam a Smith looks an upgrade at right back
We won’t play Hearts every week so will have much more of the ball
1-1 at Tynecastle is a good result at any point of the season
The defence stood up well to real onslaught of pressure
And finally we look sexy as fuck in that strip

It was a different era back then, clubs were the ones in charge not the players, I think many of the great players from the 80’s are quite bitter about that given how much the players now earn and the power they hold over everything in the game.

Jim was no doubt a right hard bastard on the players and demanded everything from them (and got it) no way Neilson or any modern day manager could rule like that. You’re also not telling me Fergie, Clough, Shankley weren’t exactly the same as Jim was, hence the respect he had from these aforementioned great managers.
