Favourite DUFC Match of the 10's - Round 1/Game 16

The penultimate match of the opening Round witnessed victory registered once again for 'Match 1' which on this occasion was Motherwell 0 Dundee United 4 (9/11/13). This thumping victory at Fir Park was described by then Motherwell Manager Stuart McCall as 'the best display' he had seen from a team at Fir Park in his time in charge as Manager. This defeat also led to him resigning his position as Manager as, again, in his own words he 'couldn't come up with a team or formation that could beat Dundee United' when he was in bed trying to write out a team to face us, in the days leading up to the encounter.

Re: Favourite DUFC Match of the 10's - Round 1/Game 16

So Lads, that is all 64 matches of the decade revealed.

A few things have struck me whilst this tournament has unfolded.

1) Keith Watson was a really underrated player for Utd. Not just solid at the back and a 'Silver Kisser' but also had a great knack of chipping in with important goals (and normally in BIG matches too).

2) Peter Houston was a magnificent Dundee United manager.

3) Our recent attendances in the Championship have been outstanding. Far eclipsing others from earlier in the decade when we were riding high in the Premiership. The fans deserve enormous credit for this. We haven't just stayed behind the club. We've backed them even harder.

4) That period in Season 13/14 where Utd just kept scoring 4 or more goals for weeks on end was insanely brilliant.

5) Despite the last 4 years of real disappointment and underachievement as a club we also this decade have been lucky enough to experience as supporters some absolutely outstanding results and performances, culminating in Top 3 finishes, winning silverware in the Sunshine at Hampden, defeating both the Old Firm, thrashing our nearest neighbours from across the street regularly, playing in Europe, and just being lucky enough to witness some absolutely top drawer players wearing tangerine (David Goodwillie, Jon Daly, Danny Swanson, Johnny Russell, Stuart Armstrong, GMS, Ryan Gauld, Nadir Ciftci, Andy Robertson etc). It was a privilege to see all of these guys in a Utd shirt.

Match 4. No apologies for this either. My young lad had a great time that day. It was actually a decent match which we deserved to win with two cracking goals.

Too much commotion

Levein said when Watson was breaking through that he was the best youngster he'd ever worked with. He then got that terrible injury that set him back about 2 years. Still bugs me that McNamara let him go.

Anyway, match 4 for me. Mickey mouse cup but it was a good day out.

Match 4)

For me.

Aye, it was a Mickey Mouse Cup.

But i remember how excited my wee boy was when Andreu scored that goal and then when the final whistle went.

The Celtic game was magic though. Proper unexpected turnaround. That there are so few fans left in the East Stand lower kind adds to the moshpit.

Only a few wee diehards going batshit.

Match 4.

Was thinking the Hearts game or daft Cup.

Had tae let wee man have the final verdict.

He was caught between 4-0 v StJ & the Irn Bru win. 5 year auld votes match 4, St Murrn 1 - United 2.

Just my views:

Keith Watson has had a decent career given his bad fortune with injury: Jackie got rid too quick.

Houstie was a reluctant manager who didn't think he had the ability to be main man at the start, and overrated his options at the end.

People are turning out to see a winning team: if the owners and backroom staff think home crowds will be maintained or even increase in the top league, they are in for a shock.

Lots of ups and down over the decade. As a supporter I've enjoyed many away days in this lower league better than several of the destinations when we were in the top division.
